I’m so glad it’s a new year!  I’m really super, super stoked about 2017.  I don’t know why, but I’m just feeling really good about this year. I just had to write up a post to share my personal goals with you.

This time around, I wanted to usher in this new year a little differently.  Rather than just “going with the flow” and seeing what happens, I want to take ownership of my time.  Each day, week, and month that pass mean something to me in the scheme of my life, so I can’t afford to waste any of it.  Relax, yes…waste, no.

That’s why I’ve decided to go back to things I’ve left undone in 2016 and finish them up this year- starting with unfinished books.  I’ll also be working on some projects and wrapping up ideas for books and products that never materialized.

And I’ve gone back to traditionally homeschooling my oldest daughter which is a major change in our lives right now, but a very good one for us.  I’m looking forward to it.

I talk more about these personal goals in detail on the video, so be sure to watch this first.

Here’s a recap…

My family and personal goals for 2017

Maintain my health

I’ve been on a journey to maintain my health for quite a while now.  Reflux symptoms from GERD can really make eating and drinking, the most basic and primitive needs we have, a miserable feat when it should be enjoyable.  I know what it feels like to eat an extremely tiny meal and then have it burn the back of my throat right after.  In order to counteract these symptoms, I’ve learned to change my diet and to care for my body attentively.

Maintaining my health means being extremely choosey about what goes into my body. I have to be a picky eater in order to enjoy the life God has given me.  Whatever it takes to maintain my health, I’m all set to make sure I follow through with it.

If you’re anything like me, staying “intelligent” is crucial! I know it sounds comical but I am serious. As I inch near my 40th birthday in a few months I realize that although I feel young I sometimes need too many brain breaks, and it would behoove me to keep giving that gray matter  a good workout!

I found a set of courses that, although expensive, is kind of what I’m looking for to keep me brain nice and healthy. I want to continue my lifelong process of learning all subjects- history, science, math- I want it tall!  GreatCourses is expensive but it’s all I’ve found so far that looks remotely similar to what I’m seeking. (If you have any other ideas, let me know.)

Recreate our homeschool atmosphere

So many things have changed in my home these past few weeks.  Right after my daughter and I discussed her experience with Connections Academy, an online public school, we decided that it was in her best interest to withdraw from the school. We pulled her out and have decided to finish up her second semester in a traditional homeschooling environment.  So, I’m now officially back on board as her teacher and I’m actually pretty excited about this change.

Because of this change, though, we’ll need to restructure our entire school routines and flow of our day. The atmosphere will change, and I know it will be for the better as there’ll be less stress for her.  I’ll also enjoy having her back with us again.

Pour more energy into my blogs and podcasts

One of my personal goals this year is to really amp up this blog as well as my mompreneur blog and podcast.  I want to really dive in, no hesitations, and give it all I have.  What that means for me is blogging slightly more often and producing more content like ebooks more regularly.  I enjoy all the tasks that go along with these things so it really shouldn’t be a problem.

Also, I just want to give readers (you)  more to look forward to! I’m hoping not to take too many huge breaks and that I can remain more consistent…but that’s a hope and it’s a plan I’m putting into action. So it takes time, but the changes are happening.

I really love blogging here.  But sometimes we get setbacks in life.

Back in the summer of 2016 all of my blogs were hacked, and it was a sad day indeed! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t shed a tear or two.  After a grueling 2 weeks of going back and forth with my hosting company I was finally able to move two of my blogs (I literally lost the others) to a new hosting company, but lost all the blog post images and comments in the process.

This meant that I had hundreds of posts (close to 800) to go back and fix images for.  This is tedious work that is still not complete today, but I’m getting there one step at a time, one day at a time.

The way I see it is:

All things work together for the good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose.

Even this mishap, which was a major deal for me and was very hurtful, turned out for my good.  Because now I get the opportunity to freshen up my posts that were lacking that final touch. I get to create new images, edit my words, restructure my paragraphs, add in more keywords.  I have to look at life through a positive lens and see the glass half-full. I get to, not I have to.

So this year…I’ll pour even more energy into these blogs (and into you), God willing, and I’m hoping to hear from homeschool mamas who are finding the answers you need.  That’s my goal: to deliver a message of encouragement and to have you walk away feeling inspired and motivated to put your plans into action.

Draw closer to God and family

Lastly, I just want to serve my family better this year. I know the only way to be my husband’s queen and my children’s mentor is to draw close to the Lord.

So, I’ll be spending more time in bible study, studying the Word. (This way, I’m more prepared to teach my children God’s Word.)  I’m planning on beginning some scripture memory exercises and to spend more time in prayer and worship each day.  No more excuses for me.  I’m ready to go all out in my walk with the Lord!  He is so good to me, and the least I can do is to really give Him my life: all of me.

So, that’s the summary of the video, but I do hope you’ll take some time to watch it as well!

Happy New Year!
